With its announcement that the Ontario Government will be releasing a broadband and cellular strategy in 2019, SWIFT is encouraged that the province recognizes the importance of connecting citizens and businesses with broadband connectivity in underserved areas.

SWIFT, the private-public broadband initiative that is building an affordable, open-access, ultra-high-speed fibre-optic broadband network in Southwestern Ontario, Caledon, and Niagara Region, is ready to launch an aggressive construction program that will impact more than 3.5 million Ontarians, or 25% of Ontario’s population.

“We applaud the Ford Government for recognizing the need to connect Ontario businesses and citizens to global opportunities. With our federal, provincial and municipal partners, and with agreements in place with facilities-based network providers that will soon begin construction connecting hundreds of small underserved towns in rural Ontario, we are ready to launch,” said SWIFT spokesperson David Mayberry, Warden of Oxford County.
