SWIFT 1.0 has successfully laid the foundation for a more connected and prosperous future for Southwestern Ontario by significantly enhancing connectivity across the region.
With 97 projects completed and more than $292 million invested in broadband infrastructure, the program has provided nearly 67,000 households and businesses with access to high-speed internet throughout Southwestern Ontario.

With a government investment of $2,010 per home, SWIFT 1.0 efficiently delivered high-speed internet to rural and small town communities, maximizing public investment in low-density areas where connectivity is often more challenging and costly to expand.
Promoting Competition, Expanding Access
Working with local, regional, and national carriers, the program has proven to be a successful business model for broadband expansion. Awarding projects to 19 unique Internet Service Providers (ISPs) across the region SWIFT's approach promotes competition in the marketplace while expanding high-speed internet service in rural and small towns across Southwestern Ontario.
Maximizing Private Sector Investment
Through SWIFT’s competitive procurement process, the program effectively secured an additional $94.6 million beyond the initial contribution target from the private sector. This funding enabled SWIFT to significantly increase the expansion of broadband infrastructure within the region, driving greater connectivity in rural communities.
SWIFT 1.0: Sources of Funding
SWIFT 1.0 was approved for funding under the New Building Canada Fund – Small Communities Fund (NBCF-SCF), a joint federal and provincial infrastructure funding program, and leverages additional funding from municipal partners and private sector investors to support the development of broadband infrastructure in eligible areas across Southwestern Ontario.
